Porsche 917 GULF Racing Inspired Rear Wing Movie 24Hour Aluminum Steve McQueen
GULF Racing Porsche 917 Inspired aluminum rear wing as seen between the rear fender flakes on the back of the famous Ferrari crushing 24 hour endurance racing machine made famous by Steve McQueen in the epic 1971 racing movie ‘LeMans’! These Wings were used to give slight balance changes to the cars as the aerodynamics were challenging in the 1969-1971 era of endurance racers… you can see one like it on the tail of the cars pictured in a warehouse during the filming of ‘LeMans’. The Porsche 917 was so dominate, the rules were changed TWICE to try to slow it down before they outlawed the cars and they found a home in the American – Canadian Can-Am racing series. Measuring 22” wide, 16.5” long along the end plates and 4” thick at the end plates. Approximate thickness of the wings chord is 2” and tapers down to about .080” with flush rivets and a paint job that represents a vintage wing element, it does not look ‘factory perfect’ paint job, a few spots have missing blue paint from high spots, like a rivet) more of a beautiful piece of equipment that might actually be 50 years old. There are also three plywood internal stuffiness inside of the wing to prevent it from crushing under aerodynamic loads, made as ‘Wall Art’ not as an actual aerodynamic device for any car of course. Fabricated from .040” and .050” 5052 aircraft aluminum, and painted in the famous GULF Racing baby blue (and Orange) colors with 2 stage Automotive Urethane paint. Seven small ‘angle of attack’ adjustment holes are drilled in the end plates on a proper arc for adjustment from inside the deck lid. I also have SIXTEEN other Porsche 917 replica panels with prices from $50 to $4,900 including the Pink Pig 917/20 This is the first series of Race Car inspired product from Nose Art Displays, see over 50 different Aviation inspired art pieces if you also love aircraft.
